Oscar Wilde and his literary circle, ca. 1854-1944.

Collection consists of roughly 3,000 items, of which approximately 400 are by Oscar Wilde. Other correspondents and authors include Lord Alfred Douglas, Adela Schuster, Constance Wilde, Robert Ross, and More Adey. Additional materials in the collection are letters by Wilde's family, literary friends, and others from Wilde's circle. Of special interest are the letters which Wilde wrote to friends Robert Ross and More Adey while at Reading Gaol. One of these letters is the cover letter for Wilde's De profundis. Also included is a large collection of ephemeral materials related to Wilde such as cartoons, programs of plays, clippings, posters, and a large selection of photographs and portraits.
